If ever there were signs that creative director Ricardo Tisci was inspired by the new normal and our unprecedented times, then Burberry’s SS21 ‘In Bloom’ show certainly confirmed this. After living with his 92 year-old mother in Lake Como during Covid-19, Tisci was inspired by nature and water, in his latest collection for the house, with stunning results. Trench coats with mermaid like details, wearable pieces inspired by British summertime and looks made for the beach, the rain and functionality made this one of his most beautiful, yet most wearable collections yet. Here it is, Burberry In Bloom London Fashion Week 2020.

The codes of the Burberry house were certainly there; what is a trench coat without a signature house-checked lining peeping through? But these have been reimagined with Tisci’s flair, showing off his own house codes readily established by his time at the house.

Burberry in Bloom: Carbon neutral

The emphasis on nature was also solidified by the fact that the show was certified carbon neutral, with donations given to Groundwork South, supporting conservation efforts and helping individuals connect with nature. Becoming increasingly more sustainable has been at the forefront of the Burberry ethos over the last few seasons, something which they have achieved with changes to their packaging and with a reduction in waste. The future of the planet is certainly bright at Burberry!

Groundbreaking: Streaming on Twitch

The show was live-streamed on Twitch; this was the first time that any fashion house had chosen this platform. By choosing the woods, there was no need for a live audience, and by inviting the likes of Erykah Badu, Bella Hadid and artists Rosalía and Steve Lacy to introduce the show with a ‘squad stream’ or a live streamed chat, was a really nice touch.

For the show itself, Burberry teamed up with renowned performance artist Anne Imhof creating beautiful choreography for a fashion meets art style affair. The end result was a real thing of beauty with the contemporary dance being a real stand out feature.
