So my wedding is really soon, like really soon. And my plan was to keep you updated right across the summer about all of the amazing things that I’ve been up to, but as always time seems to run away! Anyway, on the eve of my flight to NYC (I know, I can’t quite believe it!), I thought I’d use the time to catch you all up on my three hen dos (yes three!). I wasn’t sure if I even wanted one and ended up with three, thanks to my amazing friends. Every hen was different, but each one was very me. I’m hoping that if you’re a Bride to be, it might be some food for thought for what you could get up to on yours! So here it is, Wedding news: Three amazing Hen Parties!
Hen Do 1: Sex and the City Party
What we got up to…
My first hen was the cutest little soiree at my friend Angela’s house. June and Angela had gotten their heads together and planned me a Sex and the City hen do, because I love SATC and I’m going to NYC! Luckily the weather that weekend was amazing, so we got to spend some time in Angela’s beautiful garden too! This was also a special hen do, as it’s the one I got to spend with my lovely Mam. We gossiped and drank Prosecco all afternoon, munching on the best afternoon tea! June also put us together these super adorable SATC themed goodie bags, filled to the brim with New York inspired gifts and treats inspired by the show! I also loved that I got a Carrie Bradshaw mask so I could feel like her for the day!
What I wore…
Hen Do 2: Newcastle with my girls
What we did…
My second hen do was my official hen do. I pulled some of my absolute favourite ladies together and asked my bestie Krissi to plan something for us to do. Now the usual hen do theme (strippers and tack!) is not really my thing, and I trusted Krissi well enough to know that I wouldn’t get that sort of evening from her and my girls. She really pulled it off, as the whole day/night was the best hen that I could’ve ever dreamed of! I chose Newcastle as it provided lots of options but wasn’t too far for everyone to travel.
We started the day at the Vermont hotel (Krissi and I were staying there on the evening), where I met up with my ladies and we shared some fizz, before having the best afternoon tea. If you haven’t had afternoon tea at the Vermont, it’s one of my favourites, I’d really recommend it (the scones and brownies are epic!!). My friend Debbie tried the Gentleman’s afternoon tea and that too looked out of this world!!
We then moved on to Livello for cocktails and games and then to Turtle Bay before ending the night in Gusto for a lovely meal. We pretty much ate good food all day, which was amazing!! I absolutely loved spending time with my girls and everyone got on so well, it was just perfect!
Thank you to Krissi for organising and providing all of the cute little touches like my balloons and our hen do bracelets, Krissi and Kate for taking all of the amazing photos, to all of my girls for coming along and getting along and for the little presents too. Thanks to my other best gal Lisa for my gorgeous Dior glow and my something blue!
What I wore…
I got this amazing blue suit from Next (I think it was about £45 for the jacket and £30 for the trousers) and I loved wearing it so much, I’m tempted to buy it in other colours! I teamed it up with a Vivienne Westwood World’s End t-shirt that I picked up in Leeds, my Cavalli Class bag and my TB Burberry belt. I felt super-chic! My shoes are French Connection and are old faithfuls, I could walk in them all day! I had to pose under the Great North Run sign, as it’s only a few weeks until I run it for the third time!
Hen Do 3: My mini-work hen
What we did…
This one was an intimate affair but equally as amazing as the others. I’m so lucky to work in an office with girls that I really think of as family. After years of working on my own, I’m so lucky to be in a place where my work ladies are some of my very best friends and I can’t thank them enough for the perfect little hen they threw me just before I broke up for my summer break.
Straight from a day in the office, we had some Prosecco (again!) and then made our way to Asiana, an Asian fusion restaurant in Sunderland. For someone who loves Thai food as much as I do, I can’t believe I hadn’t been before. The girls’ treated me to the most amazing meal and organised the most beautiful NYC inspired cupcakes for me from wonderful Heaven Sent cupcakes. They then surprised me with the most beautiful gift, a Tiffany bracelet for my something new to wear on my wedding day. I wasn’t expecting anything and didn’t want any fuss, so was truly overwhelmed by the whole occasion! It was so lovely to spend time with some of my favourite people outside of work, my little work family!
Thank you so much to my work girls for their generosity, I can’t thank you enough! Also a little extra thanks to Dionne and Kate and Millie for my cute little Bride presents-I love them all!!
Wedding news: Three amazing Hen Parties: The Verdict
To anyone thinking of not having a hen do, no matter how small the wedding, I’d definitely recommend one (or three!). They don’t have to be big, or brash, they can be whatever you want them to be. I enjoyed each of mine, but the part I enjoyed most was spending time with the people I love. I’ve got some really beautiful, amazing ladies in my life and I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done for me! So I guess now all that’s left to do is get married….eeeek! Wish me luck!
I’m off to NYC now!
