Newcastle’s Café Royal Your Perfect Brunch Hotspot; that’s right you heard it here first! Brunch, the trendiest meal of the day. When I was younger, no-one really used the phrase brunch (unless they were maybe rich, or American) but brunch is now really popular here in good old England. As it grows in popularity, Café Royal, one of Newcastle’s old favourites has had an amazing makeover to cater to the brunch-loving crowd. And even if brunch isn’t your thing, its still the perfect place to grab a coffee and a scone. This week, I was kindly invited along to its relaunch to find out more about Newcastle’s latest hotspot.
Café Royal: A Transformation
Situated on Nelson Street opposite the Grainger Market, even before it’s makeover Café Royal was always a thing of beauty and grandeur. With a stunning marble-pillared exterior, it really is an elegant spot for lunch. And with a fresh and modern interior overhaul, Café Royal has never seemed so inviting! Bright, off-white walls are complemented by leather sofas in hues of green. A tiled ground floor area evokes feelings of a New York bistro, whereas a wooden-floored spiral staircase leads up to the brunch area and carries through onto the first floor. Everything feels bright and fresh, it’s just what the venue really needed. A cool coffee and cake counter on the ground floor served as the perfect place for espresso martinis for arriving guests (which I sadly didn’t sample, as I was designated driver!) whilst the kitchen upstairs sent out multiple mojitos (and a Virgin mojito for me-thanks!) and tasty treats. If the canapés are anything to go by, the food at Café Royal is amazing! I sampled something salmon and some courgette fries, both of which left my tastebuds tingling!
Scones still on the menu…
When I mentioned Café Royal to friends, the first thing those that had already visited talked about were the quality of the scones, and I’m pleased to say there were plenty to choose from at the relaunch. Scones have stayed as a sacred part of their menu, along with the most amazing cakes my eyes have ever seen. I’ll definitely be going back to sample some of their tastier treats! But what I’m really excited about is brunch…
A new brunch area…
So when I started this review, my main focus was brunch. Speaking to Rachel at the event (she’s a big part of the Sir John Fitzgerald Ltd social media and marketing group-the group behind Café Royal) I learnt a lot about the venue’s upstairs transformation. This is the area that can be hired out for private events, but will also serve as the perfect location for brunch. With views of the café’s beautiful spiral staircase and the street below, it’s cosy yet cool and is the perfect place for catching up with friends. I can’t wait to revisit with my girls for brunch with fizz, particularly as the menu looks so good.
Newcastle’s Café Royal, The Relaunch Event
I really enjoyed Café Royal’s launch party! I took my friend Kate along as my guest for the evening; we had a fab time sampling some amazing treats and finding out about the venue!
This seems like a great time to mention that all of the food at Café Royal is locally sourced, and absolutely delicious! But don’t take my word for it; if you’re nearby why not pop in and see it for yourself? You might even find me there, enjoying brunch and watching the world go by!
Until next time,
Thanks to the team at Café Royal and Karol Marketing for the invite, we had a great evening! This wasn’t a paid review; all opinions are my own. You can find out more about Café Royal here.
